Why do compulsive liars lie? e.g. Casey Anthony . . .?

I mean I understang lying for a reason, like covering for yourself or getting something out of it, but she lies about everything it seems. If she eats turkey for dinner, she'll tell people she ate meatloaf. If the Astros play the Braves, she'll tell people they played the Pirates. Why?
